Small prickly rash: what to know

Heat Rash can cause tiny raised spots with prickling or itching when sweat ducts become blocked in warm, humid conditions. Contact Dermatitis may appear where a new soap, fabric, fragrance, adhesive, or plant touched the skin. Atopic Dermatitis tends to bring dryness and itch, while Intertrigo favours moist skin folds. Scabies can itch intensely and may affect household contacts; Ringworm often forms a scaly expanding edge. A medicine-related eruption can spread beyond the original contact area. Psoriasis may leave thicker, sharply defined scaly patches.

Move to a cooler place, loosen tight clothing, and keep the area dry. Rinse away a suspected irritant and use a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser when the skin is dry rather than damp. Avoid scratching, perfumed products, hot showers, and thick ointments over a sweaty rash. Do not start or stop a prescribed medicine without contacting the prescriber. Record when the rash began, what touched the area, heat exposure, new products, and any new medicine.

Get urgent help for breathing trouble, facial or tongue swelling, faintness, blistering, skin peeling, purple spots that do not fade with pressure, or rash with fever and severe illness. Arrange medical review when the rash is spreading, painful, infected-looking, persistent, recurrent, or affecting the eyes, mouth, or genitals.

Ask whether the pattern fits heat, contact irritation, infection, or inflammation; which products are safe; and whether anyone close to you needs assessment. Bring a medicine and product list plus photographs showing how the rash changed.
