Small dot rash on arm: what to know

Itchy dry patches may occur with atopic dermatitis, while a new soap, plant, adhesive, or cosmetic can trigger contact dermatitis. Heat rash tends to appear after sweating and blocked heat release. Ringworm often forms an expanding scaly edge, and scabies can cause intense itch with spots in characteristic areas and affected household contacts. Psoriasis may produce well-defined, scaly plaques. A drug rash can begin after a new medicine, so timing and the full medication list matter.

Pause newly introduced fragranced products, keep the skin cool, and use a bland moisturiser if it is dry. Avoid scratching and do not share towels if a contagious rash is possible. Do not start multiple creams at once; a steroid can worsen some infections and obscure the pattern. Arrange assessment if the rash persists, spreads, or needs prescription treatment.

Seek urgent care for trouble breathing, facial swelling, blistering, skin peeling, mouth or eye involvement, fever with a rapidly spreading rash, or purple-red dots that do not fade when pressed. Contact a clinician promptly if the rash began after a medicine or is painful, infected-looking, or affecting a child who seems unwell.
