Small Bed Bug Bites: What to Know

Bed bug bites are an inflammatory skin reaction after feeding. Marks may be noticed after sleeping and can itch for days. People react differently: one person may have obvious bumps while another has little visible change. Similar spots can come from mosquitoes, fleas, contact irritation, or other causes, so inspect the sleeping area for supporting signs rather than diagnosing from appearance alone.

Scratching can break the skin and allow infection. New marks after sleeping suggest that the exposure may still be active, although the timing of a skin reaction varies.

Wash the skin gently, use a cool compress, and keep fingernails short. Wash bedding and clothing using the hottest setting suitable for the fabric, then dry them thoroughly.
