Slinda breakthrough bleeding: what to know

Slinda is a progestogen-only contraceptive. Hormonal changes can make the womb lining shed irregularly, causing spotting or bleeding outside the expected pattern. Missed or late tablets, vomiting, diarrhoea, interactions with other medicines, pregnancy, infection, or a polyp can also change bleeding. Bleeding alone cannot show which cause is responsible. Chlamydia may cause bleeding with sex, discharge, pelvic pain, or urinary symptoms.

Take Slinda exactly as prescribed and follow the pack instructions for missed tablets; do not change the schedule to chase spotting. Note bleeding days, amount, missed tablets, illness, new medicines, pain, and discharge. Speak with a pharmacist or prescriber before stopping or switching contraception. If pregnancy is possible, ask when a test is appropriate and whether backup contraception is needed.

Seek urgent help for very heavy bleeding, faintness, severe or one-sided pelvic pain, shoulder-tip pain, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding. Arrange prompt review for bleeding that persists, returns after settling, follows sex repeatedly, or comes with fever, unusual discharge, or pelvic tenderness.

Ask whether your bleeding pattern is expected for your contraception, whether a pregnancy or infection test is needed, and whether another contraceptive option would suit your health and preferences.
