Sleepy during pregnancy in the first trimester
Short answer
Feeling sleepy during the first trimester is common because hormonal changes and the work of early pregnancy can increase fatigue.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why early pregnancy can make you tired
Rising progesterone can make you drowsy, while your body is adjusting to changes in blood flow, metabolism and the developing pregnancy. Nausea, reduced appetite, emotional strain and disrupted sleep can add to the feeling. Fatigue may come in waves and can be strongest during the day. Sleepiness by itself does not diagnose a problem.
Ways to support your energy
Rest when you can, keep a regular sleep routine and choose small, nourishing meals with fluids. Gentle movement, such as a comfortable walk, may help if you feel able. Avoid driving or operating equipment when drowsiness is strong. At a prenatal visit, mention persistent or limiting fatigue so your clinician can consider symptoms such as anaemia or thyroid problems.
When to seek care
Seek urgent medical advice for sleepiness with fainting, severe weakness, breathlessness, chest pain, confusion, heavy bleeding or significant one-sided abdominal or pelvic pain. Pain with bleeding or dizziness needs prompt assessment because ectopic pregnancy can present with these symptoms. Contact your maternity team promptly if you cannot keep fluids down or the fatigue is suddenly much worse.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your fatigue fits expected early pregnancy changes, whether blood tests could check anaemia or thyroid function, and which warning symptoms should prompt an urgent call.

Questions people ask
Is marked sleepiness in early pregnancy always a warning sign?
No. It is often part of normal early pregnancy, but sudden or disabling fatigue, fainting, breathlessness or bleeding deserves medical advice.
Can sleepiness harm the pregnancy?
Sleepiness itself does not usually harm the pregnancy. Arrange assessment if another symptom accompanies it or you are struggling to function safely.
