Sinusitis and laryngitis at the same time

Sinusitis can cause a blocked nose, facial pressure, and mucus draining towards the throat. Laryngitis affects the voice box and commonly causes a hoarse or weak voice. Mouth breathing, throat irritation, coughing, or repeated throat clearing can make the voice feel worse. A common cold can trigger inflammation in several connected parts of the upper airway, while acid reflux can also irritate the voice box. These symptoms do not by themselves identify one cause.

Rest your voice by speaking gently and avoiding shouting or whispering. Drink fluids regularly, use humidified air if it feels soothing, and avoid smoke and other throat irritants. Saline nasal rinsing may help clear mucus when used with safe water and clean equipment. Follow label directions for any over-the-counter pain or nasal medicine, and check with a pharmacist if you are pregnant, have a long-term condition, or take other medicines.

Arrange medical advice if symptoms are worsening, persist beyond expected recovery, keep returning, or interfere with drinking, sleep, or daily activities. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing or swallowing, drooling, marked swelling around an eye or the neck, confusion, severe dehydration, or a severe headache with a stiff neck. A clinician can examine your nose, throat, and voice and decide whether testing or targeted treatment is appropriate.

Ask whether the pattern fits a viral illness, sinus inflammation, reflux, allergy, or another cause; which treatments are suitable for your other medicines; and how long voice changes should be monitored.
