Silicone gel sheets for burn scars

Burned skin can remain fragile after the surface closes. Silicone sheets are intended for a healed scar, not for first aid or wound closure. The sheet provides a soft barrier over scar tissue and may reduce friction from clothing while the scar settles.

A burn scar can be thick, itchy, tight, darker, or lighter than nearby skin. The location, depth of the burn, and movement across a joint affect the care plan, so a clinician should confirm that the skin is ready.

Clean and dry the healed area before applying the sheet. Follow the product directions for trimming, wear, cleaning, and replacement. Remove it for inspection if the skin becomes sweaty, macerated, itchy, or increasingly red, and avoid applying adhesive over broken skin.

Keep the sheet away from eyes and mucous membranes. If the scar is tight across a joint or interferes with movement, a burn or dermatology team can discuss scar revision surgery and other options.

Get medical help for a burn that remains open, develops spreading redness, drainage, worsening pain, fever, or a foul smell. Arrange review if a healed scar becomes rapidly thicker, cracks repeatedly, or limits movement.

Ask whether healing is complete, how long the sheet should be worn each day, how to manage heat and sweating, and what to do if the surrounding skin reacts.
