Silicea and a Bartholin Cyst

The Bartholin glands sit near the lower vaginal opening and help provide lubrication. If a gland duct becomes blocked, fluid can collect and form a cyst. A small cyst may cause little discomfort, while an infected cyst can become an abscess with increasing pain, redness, warmth, swelling, or pus. Walking, sitting, or sexual activity may become difficult. A lump can have other causes, so examination is especially important for a new lump later in reproductive life or one that feels unusual.

Arrange an appointment if the lump persists, returns, grows, or makes movement uncomfortable. A warm sitz bath may ease discomfort while you arrange care, but do not squeeze, puncture, or attempt to drain it yourself. Tell the clinician about any medicines, pregnancy, allergies, or homeopathic products you use. If drainage is needed, the team can choose an approach that allows fluid to leave and lowers the chance of the opening sealing too soon.

Seek same-day care for rapidly worsening pain, fever, feeling unwell, spreading redness, pus, or difficulty walking or sitting. Seek urgent help if you cannot pass urine or develop severe swelling. An abscess may need drainage and sometimes other treatment; delaying care while trying silicea can allow infection and pain to worsen.
