What should you know about serial growth scan?

Each scan can measure parts of the baby and estimate growth, assess the placenta and amniotic fluid, and check movement and heartbeat. Comparing measurements across appointments helps the maternity team see the growth pattern rather than relying on one snapshot. A scan may be suggested when there are concerns about growth, blood pressure, diabetes, placental position, previous pregnancy history or another feature of the pregnancy.

Ask what the scan is checking, when the next appointment is due and how results will be shared. Wear comfortable clothing and follow the clinic’s instructions about bladder preparation. Bring questions about estimated growth, fluid, placenta and the plan if measurements change.
