Short answer

A sensitive-skin routine should be predictable: cleanse gently, moisturise, protect from sun exposure, and introduce changes one at a time.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Morning
Moisturise and use tolerated sun protection.
Evening
Remove products gently, cleanse, then moisturise.
Changes
Introduce one new product at a time.

Why consistency helps

Sensitive skin often reacts when the barrier is disrupted by harsh cleansing, hot water, friction, dry air, sweat, or multiple active products. A consistent routine makes it easier to see what your skin tolerates. Morning redness or stinging may be worsened by heat and sunlight; evening discomfort can follow makeup removal, shaving, or accumulated irritants. This pattern can also occur with Atopic Dermatitis, Rosacea, or contact reactions, so a routine can reduce aggravation without replacing diagnosis.

Morning and evening steps

In the morning, rinse or use a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, pat dry, apply moisturiser, and finish with sun protection that does not sting. In the evening, remove makeup or sunscreen without scrubbing, cleanse with lukewarm water, and moisturise again. Keep towels, pillowcases, and shaving tools clean and avoid rubbing the face dry. Add only one new product after your skin has been settled, test it on a small area, and watch for delayed irritation. Stop a product that causes repeated burning or a visible rash. Do not use facial steroid creams without specific medical advice, particularly if spots cluster around the mouth as in Perioral Dermatitis.

When to seek care

Arrange a dermatology review if the routine does not settle ongoing redness, scaling, itching, or burning, or if symptoms return whenever a product is used. Get urgent help for swelling of the lips or face, breathing trouble, blistering, widespread hives, severe eye symptoms, or rapidly spreading painful redness with fever.

Questions to bring

Which step should I change first? Could my symptoms indicate Rosacea or another condition? What ingredients should I avoid, and when can I safely reintroduce products?

Questions people ask

Should I cleanse sensitive skin twice daily?

Many people tolerate gentle cleansing in the evening and a rinse in the morning; adjust if washing causes tightness or burning.

How long should I test a new product?

Test a small area first and monitor for immediate and delayed reactions before applying it widely.
