What should you know about sculpture compression garments?

A compression garment is made from close-fitting elastic fabric that applies pressure to a limb or another body area. The pressure can support fluid movement and may help manage swelling, heaviness, or changes in shape. “Sculpture” may describe a shaping style or product name; it does not by itself confirm that a garment is medically suitable.

Fit matters. A garment that is too loose may not provide useful support, while one that is too tight can cause pain, skin injury, numbness, or colour change. People with lymphoedema may use garments as part of Lymphoedema Therapy, but the design depends on the affected area, swelling pattern, skin condition, circulation, and ability to put it on.

Ask a trained clinician to measure you and recommend the pressure level, fabric, length, and wearing schedule. Put it on smoothly without folds, wrinkles, or rolled edges, and check the skin after removing it. Keep the garment clean and replace it when the fabric loses its shape. Do not cut, alter, or share it. Read the product instructions and report discomfort rather than forcing a difficult fit.

Remove the garment and contact your clinician if you develop increasing pain, numbness, tingling, coldness, unusual colour, new skin damage, or swelling that suddenly worsens. Seek urgent help for severe breathlessness, chest pain, or sudden one-sided limb swelling. A garment should not be used to cover an unexplained new swelling before it has been assessed.
