What should you know about scrotal lichen planus?

Lichen planus can affect genital skin with flat-topped or slightly raised areas, colour change, fine surface markings, soreness or itching. The appearance may vary with skin tone and the stage of inflammation. A clinician may inspect the scrotum and other skin or mouth sites, review medicines and sometimes recommend a small biopsy when the diagnosis is uncertain. Arrange a dermatology assessment for a persistent, changing or uncomfortable rash. Use gentle, fragrance-free washing, pat dry, avoid scratching and stop products that sting.
