When should you worry about scarlet fever?

A rash with fever and a sore throat should be assessed because scarlet fever can accompany a streptococcal throat infection. Mild discomfort does not by itself show how serious an illness will become. Pay attention to the person’s overall condition: alertness, drinking, urination, breathing, and the speed at which symptoms change. A rough rash, red or coated tongue, swollen neck glands, and throat pain are useful details to report.
