Scarlet fever type rash: what to know

The rash may begin on the chest or body folds and spread across the body. It can feel more textured than it looks, and skin creases may appear deeper red. The face may look flushed while the area around the mouth stays paler. A red, bumpy tongue, sore throat, fever, and swollen neck glands may occur at the same time. Rash appearance varies with skin tone, so a clinician should assess the whole pattern rather than relying on colour alone.

Keep the skin cool, use loose soft clothing, and avoid scratching or fragranced products that may add irritation. Take a clear photograph in good light if the rash changes before the appointment, while preserving privacy. Arrange medical assessment when a rough spreading rash occurs with a sore throat or Fever.
