Scar reduction silicone sheets: what to know

Silicone sheets are designed for scar management rather than removal. By covering closed scar tissue, they help maintain a hydrated surface and provide gentle contact that may improve the feel and appearance of a raised or firm scar. Results vary with scar age, depth, location, and how the skin responds.

A sheet may reduce prominence without restoring the skin to its original appearance. It cannot treat an open wound, active infection, or an unexplained new lump. Scars that cross joints or become tight need assessment beyond cosmetic care.

Apply the sheet to clean, completely dry, healed skin. Trim it to cover the scar with a small margin, avoid creases, and follow the maker's instructions for wear time and cleaning. Increase use gradually if your skin is sensitive, and inspect the area whenever you remove it.

Keep the sheet off broken skin, scabs, or a rash. Stop if it causes persistent itching, burning, blistering, or worsening redness. If the scar remains raised or restricts movement, discuss a broader plan with a dermatologist; Scar Revision Surgery may be considered for selected scars.
