Scagel Silicone Gel Sheet: What to Know

Silicone creates a light, protective layer over a scar and helps maintain a hydrated surface. It is generally considered for raised, firm or red scars once the wound has closed completely. It is not a substitute for wound care and should not cover an open, weeping, infected or freshly bleeding area. Results vary with scar type, age, location and regular use.

Clean and dry the healed skin before applying the sheet, then follow the product or clinician’s instructions for wear time and cleaning. Increase wear gradually if advised, especially when the skin is sensitive. Check underneath regularly, keep the sheet clean, and stop if persistent redness, blistering, rash or worsening itch develops. Do not place it over an unhealed incision.

Ask for medical review if the scar is painful, hot, draining, rapidly enlarging, or reopening. A raised scar that extends beyond the original injury, or one that restricts movement, may need a different treatment plan. Seek advice before using a sheet on fragile skin or near a healing surgical site.
