What should you know about round skin rash?

A circular patch that expands with a scaly rim can occur with Ringworm. Atopic Dermatitis and Contact Dermatitis may produce itchy, dry, inflamed areas. Psoriasis can create well-defined thicker patches with surface scale. Heat Rash affects areas exposed to heat and sweat, while Intertrigo develops where skin rubs together and moisture remains. Scabies is associated with intense itch and can affect close contacts. A rash after starting a medicine may be a Drug Rash. Several conditions can overlap in appearance, so the shape is only one clue.

Take a clear photo in good light and record changes in size, colour, itch, pain, scale, or drainage. Wash with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, then moisturise dry areas with a fragrance-free product. Keep moist folds dry and avoid sharing towels. Do not apply steroid or antifungal products repeatedly without advice, because the wrong treatment can change the appearance and delay diagnosis.

Get urgent help for blistering, peeling, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, eye or mouth involvement, severe pain, or fever. Seek prompt review when the rash spreads quickly, becomes hot and tender, or develops pus. A persistent or recurrent rash merits a planned dermatology visit even when discomfort is mild.
