Rough Chicken Skin Bumps: What to Know

Keratosis pilaris forms when keratin builds around hair follicles, creating many small, rough bumps. They are often skin-coloured or pink and tend to cluster on the outer upper arms, thighs, or cheeks. Dry weather and friction can make the texture feel rougher. Folliculitis is a different possibility when bumps are painful, itchy, pustular, or centred on irritated follicles.

Use a mild cleanser, avoid very hot showers, and moisturise promptly after bathing. Products containing urea, lactic acid, or salicylic acid may loosen scale for some people; introduce one product at a time and stop if burning or a worsening rash develops. Do not pick or use a rough mitt. Improvement requires regular use and may fade when care stops.
