What should you know about rosea rash?

Rashes can be flat or raised, itchy or tender, sharply bordered or spread across several areas. A clinician considers the pattern, scale, timing, recent products, medicines, illness, and possible exposures. Similar-looking eruptions include contact dermatitis, heat rash, ringworm, psoriasis, and drug rash.

Notice whether the rash began suddenly, whether it is spreading, and whether the skin is warm, painful, blistered, peeling, or oozing. A clear description and dated photographs can help show how it changes.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and use a plain fragrance-free moisturiser if the skin feels dry. Avoid scratching, harsh scrubs, new scented products, and tight clothing over the area. Do not apply a steroid, antifungal, or antibiotic cream unless a clinician has advised it, because the wrong product can alter the appearance or irritate the skin.

Seek urgent medical help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, a rapidly spreading rash, severe pain, extensive blistering, skin peeling, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth. Arrange a dermatology review if it persists, repeatedly returns, becomes infected-looking, or follows a new medicine.
