How to get rid of ringworm

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the outer skin and can affect the body, groin, feet, scalp, beard, or nails. A dry scaly patch may need a different plan from infection inside scalp hair or a broad area of skin. Eczema and other rashes can mimic it, while steroid products can disguise fungal activity. That is why the location, appearance, spread, and any previous treatment matter when a clinician chooses therapy. Treating the correct site also helps avoid leaving an infected area untreated.

Use a topical antifungal treatment exactly as directed for suitable skin disease, applying it to the affected skin and the surrounding margin when instructed. Scalp or extensive infection may need an oral antifungal treatment because surface products do not fully reach hair shafts. Keep skin dry, change damp clothing, wash hands after applying medicine, and launder towels and clothing regularly. Do not share towels, footwear, razors, combs, or sports equipment. Seek prompt help for pain, pus, marked swelling, fever, or a rapidly worsening reaction. Return for assessment when treatment does not improve the area or when repeated episodes suggest an untreated source such as a close contact or pet.
