What should you know about ring with knob pessary?

The ring rests inside the vagina, while the knob can provide extra support beneath the bladder or another area affected by prolapse. A vaginal bulge, pressure or dragging sensation may improve when the device is correctly fitted, although a pessary does not repair weakened support tissues. Fit varies with pelvic anatomy, activity and symptoms. Light discharge can occur, but persistent bleeding, foul odour or pain needs assessment. The device is usually made from body-safe silicone and may be removed for cleaning or left in place with scheduled clinical checks.

Have the pessary selected and fitted by a trained clinician. Walk, sit, pass urine and cough during fitting so comfort and support can be checked. Follow instructions for removal, washing and reinsertion; never force it or use sharp tools. Keep review appointments even when symptoms are better, because the vaginal tissue needs inspection and the fit may change. Tell the clinician if sex, bowel movements, exercise or urination become difficult. Pelvic floor exercises or repair surgery may be discussed when a pessary does not provide enough support.

Arrange prompt care for new bleeding, increasing pain, difficulty passing urine or stool, a device that will not come out, or a strong unpleasant smell. Seek urgent help for severe pelvic pain, fever with feeling very unwell, or inability to urinate.
