What should you know about ribociclib and tamoxifen?

Tamoxifen is an endocrine medicine that blocks oestrogen signals in breast tissue. Ribociclib is a targeted medicine that inhibits proteins involved in cell-cycle progression. Their use depends on the cancer’s hormone-receptor findings, stage, previous treatment and the person’s health. The combination is not appropriate for everyone, and the prescribing team must review other medicines because interactions can change safety or effectiveness.

Take each medicine exactly as prescribed and do not start supplements, antibiotics or other new medicines without checking first. The team may arrange blood counts, liver tests and an electrocardiogram before and during ribociclib treatment. Report new medicines, missed doses, menstrual changes or pregnancy plans. Contact the oncology team urgently for fever, chills, unusual bruising, yellow skin, dark urine, severe tiredness, fainting or a fast or irregular heartbeat. Seek emergency help for chest pain, severe breathlessness, one-sided leg swelling, sudden weakness or trouble speaking. Ask why both medicines are recommended, how they should be timed, and what to do after a missed dose or vomiting. Ask which tests are needed, which symptoms require same-day contact, how contraception and pregnancy are handled, and whether any current medicine could interact.
