What should you know about rhabdomyolysis Adderall symptoms?

Rhabdomyolysis is muscle breakdown that releases substances into the bloodstream and can strain the kidneys. Adderall contains stimulant medicines; heat, intense exertion, dehydration, agitation, or a dose problem may add stress to the body. The medicine is not the only possible explanation, so symptoms need clinical assessment rather than self-diagnosis.

Possible features include muscle pain or swelling that seems unusually severe, marked weakness, cramps, unusual tiredness, nausea, dark or tea-coloured urine, or urinating less than usual. Ordinary post-exercise soreness is discussed in [Muscle Soreness After Exercise](/symptoms/muscle-soreness-after-exercise/), but severe or unusual symptoms should not be dismissed as routine soreness.

Stop strenuous exercise and seek same-day medical advice if these symptoms occur after taking Adderall. Do not take extra doses, use non-prescribed stimulants, or attempt to treat suspected rhabdomyolysis with supplements. Tell the clinician the dose, timing, other medicines or substances, recent exercise, fluid intake, heat exposure, and any vomiting or diarrhoea.

A clinician may examine you and check blood and urine to assess muscle injury, kidney function, and salts in the blood. Do not wait for urine colour to change before asking for help.

Go to an emergency department for severe muscle pain or weakness, dark urine, very little urine, confusion, fainting, chest pain, trouble breathing, seizure, or inability to keep fluids down. These signs can indicate a serious complication and require immediate assessment.

When did symptoms begin relative to the dose? Was there strenuous activity, heat, dehydration, illness, or another substance? What tests are needed, and when is it safe to resume exercise or the prescribed medicine?
