Small prickling bumps after heat or sweating can fit heat rash. A rash where a new product, fabric, detergent, or metal touched the skin may be contact dermatitis. Itchy inflamed patches can occur with atopic dermatitis, while moist skin folds may develop intertrigo. Ringworm can form an enlarging scaly edge; scabies often causes intense itch, especially at night. Psoriasis or a drug rash are other possibilities, and a visual examination may be needed.

Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice, but contact the prescriber promptly if the rash started after a new drug.

Seek urgent help for a rash with breathing trouble, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, purple spots, or fever with rapid spread.
