Red Bumpy Rash on Arms That Is Not Itchy

Bumps centred on hair follicles may follow friction, dry skin, or a follicular condition. Heat and sweat can cause small red bumps, while contact dermatitis may follow a new sleeve fabric, detergent, cosmetic, or chemical. Psoriasis can form thicker, scaly areas, and a drug rash may appear after a new medicine. Ringworm often forms an enlarging scaly edge. Atopic dermatitis can sometimes be less itchy between flares. A lack of itch narrows some possibilities but does not identify one cause.

Take photographs from the same distance and observe whether the bumps are smooth, scaly, follicle-centred, or changing shape. Use a gentle cleanser and fragrance-free moisturiser, avoid tight sleeves and rough exfoliation, and keep the arms cool after sweating. Pause a newly introduced product when practical. Do not use leftover prescription cream because the wrong treatment can obscure the pattern or irritate the skin.

Seek urgent assessment if the rash spreads quickly, becomes painful or hot, forms blisters or purple spots, affects the mouth or eyes, or comes with fever, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Book a review if it persists, recurs, develops scaling or drainage, or follows a new medicine. A clinician can assess the surface and follicles directly.

Ask whether the bumps arise from follicles, irritation, inflammation, fungus, or a medication; whether any product should be stopped; and what signs would change the urgency. Share when it started and whether both arms are affected.
