What should you know about razor rash pubic area?

Razor irritation tends to appear where the blade passed, with small bumps, redness, itching, or a raw sensation. Ingrown hairs may create individual tender bumps as hair grows beneath the surface. Location alone cannot identify the cause: Scabies can itch intensely, Ringworm may spread in a ring, and Contact Dermatitis may follow a new product. A rash concentrated in moist folds may be Intertrigo. The appearance, timing, and changes after stopping shaving help a clinician assess it.

Give the area a break from shaving and waxing. Rinse external skin gently, dry by patting, and choose breathable underwear that does not press on the bumps. Avoid scratching, squeezing, exfoliating, deodorising sprays, and fragranced washes. Wash hands before touching the area, and use separate clean towels. Once healed, reduce close passes by softening hair first, applying shaving gel, and moving the razor with the direction of growth.

Get medical advice if the rash is spreading, increasingly painful, hot, swollen, draining, or accompanied by fever. Prompt care is appropriate for genital swelling, blisters, open sores, or concern about a sexually transmitted infection. If it does not settle after removing shaving and product triggers, an examination can separate irritation from infection, dermatitis, or a fungal condition.
