Razor bumps on a private part

Ingrown hairs commonly present as razor bumps after a close shave, waxing or plucking. Curly or coarse hair may curve back into the skin as it grows. Folliculitis can look similar and may produce several tender or pus-filled spots. A bump in a private area is not automatically caused by hair removal; blisters, ulcers and discharge should be checked separately.

Stop shaving the affected patch for now. Clean it with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then dry without rubbing. A warm compress can soften surface skin and reduce discomfort. Choose loose clothing, change out of sweaty garments, and avoid abrasive scrubs. Do not pop the spot or try to pull out a deeply embedded hair.
