Razor bumps after waxing: what to know

Waxing removes hair from the root and can temporarily stress the opening of each follicle. As hair regrows, a curved strand may become trapped under skin, producing a red or itchy bump. Sweat, tight clothing and rubbing can add irritation. Small uniform bumps soon after waxing may be follicle inflammation; a tender bump with pus may be [Folliculitis](/conditions/folliculitis/). The pattern can also resemble [Ingrown Hairs](/symptoms/ingrown-hairs/).

Keep freshly waxed skin clean and avoid friction, intense heat, swimming and fragranced products until it is comfortable. Wear loose clothing and do not pick, squeeze or try to lift hairs with a needle. Pause further waxing over active bumps.
