Rash Under One Armpit: What to Know

One-sided symptoms can reflect rubbing from clothing, shaving, a deodorant, or a new wash product. Sweat trapped in the fold may irritate skin or support Intertrigo. Contact Dermatitis can appear where a deodorant or cosmetic touches the skin. Atopic Dermatitis may be dry and itchy. Ringworm can produce a scaly, enlarging border, while an inflamed follicle may cause small tender bumps. The appearance, itch, pain, odor, and timing help a clinician separate these possibilities.

Wash gently, rinse well, and pat the fold completely dry. Wear loose, breathable clothing and pause deodorant, fragrance, shaving, and recently changed products until the skin settles. Avoid scrubbing, squeezing bumps, or sharing towels. Keep the area dry after exercise and change damp clothing. Do not use leftover steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal medication without advice because the wrong product can obscure the appearance or worsen some rashes. Seek an examination if the area is weeping, recurrent, or not improving.

Get prompt care for rapidly expanding redness, severe tenderness, warmth, pus, a foul smell, fever, or red streaks. Urgent help is needed for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or feeling faint after a product exposure.
