Rash Under Breast: What You Should Know

Redness, tenderness, stinging and soreness along the crease are consistent with fold irritation, often called Intertrigo. Moist skin can allow yeast or bacteria to multiply, especially when there are small cracks or an odour. A sharply outlined, scaly or ring-shaped patch may suggest Ringworm. Atopic Dermatitis can make skin itchy and dry, while Contact Dermatitis may follow a new detergent, bra fabric, perfume or cream. Heat Rash can cause clusters of tiny itchy bumps. These patterns overlap, so a clinician may need to examine the area.

Wash with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then pat completely dry. Replace damp bras or clothing and select breathable fabrics with a comfortable fit. A clean dry cloth changed when moist can limit rubbing. Do not scrub, scratch, use perfume or share towels. Avoid borrowing leftover steroid or antifungal medicine; the wrong product can aggravate the rash or delay an accurate diagnosis. If the skin is broken or treatment is uncertain, ask a pharmacist or doctor for tailored advice.

Seek prompt care for increasing warmth, swelling, severe tenderness, pus, bleeding, blisters, a foul smell or redness moving beyond the fold. Fever or feeling unwell needs urgent attention. Arrange an appointment if the rash recurs, affects both sides persistently or remains despite keeping the area clean and dry.
