What should you know about rash on eyelids?

Eyelid skin may react to eye makeup, cleanser, sunscreen, hair products, nail products transferred by touch, contact-lens products, or a new medicine. It can become itchy, dry, scaly, red, or puffy. Contact dermatitis is common to consider, while atopic dermatitis or psoriasis may cause recurring inflammation. A rash with crusting along the lashes, marked tenderness, or one-sided swelling needs a different examination. Appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

Stop eye makeup and newly added products around the eyes. Rinse gently with clean lukewarm water, avoid rubbing, and use a cool clean compress for comfort. Keep contact lenses out while the eye is irritated. Do not put moisturisers, essential oils, steroid creams, or other medicines on the eyelids unless a clinician has advised that exact product. A professional may distinguish Contact Dermatitis from Atopic Dermatitis or another problem.

Get same-day medical advice for significant eyelid swelling, eye pain, warmth, pus, fever, or redness spreading around the eye. Seek emergency help if vision changes, eye movement hurts, the eye cannot open, or facial swelling is accompanied by breathing difficulty or tongue and lip swelling. A mild itchy rash still deserves review if it persists or repeatedly returns.
