What should you know about purple skin after sunburn?

A [Sunburn](/conditions/sunburn/) damages skin cells and widens small blood vessels, causing [Skin Redness](/symptoms/skin-redness/). As inflammation evolves, the area can look dusky, purple, or uneven, particularly in deeper skin tones. Peeling may follow as damaged surface cells shed, and fluid-filled [Skin Blisters](/symptoms/skin-blisters/) indicate a more intense burn. Colour alone cannot show the full depth of injury.
