Pubic Bone and Groin Pain

Short answer
Pubic bone and groin pain can arise from muscles, tendons, hip joints or nearby tissues, so examination is needed to identify the source.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Rehabilitation focus
- Gradual hip, trunk and adductor loading
Possible sources of pain
Pain at the front of the pelvis may involve the adductor muscles, their attachment near the pubic bone, the hip joint or the abdominal wall. Running, kicking, changing direction, coughing or getting out of a car can reveal different patterns. Hip Impingement may cause groin pain with bending and rotation, while a Hip Labral Tear can produce catching or clicking. Hip Osteoarthritis more often brings stiffness and reduced hip motion. These conditions can present with groin pain, but the symptom does not by itself identify one diagnosis.
Practical next steps
Pause the movement that sharply provokes pain and keep gentle, comfortable walking if it does not worsen symptoms. Avoid sudden sprinting, deep twisting and heavy adductor loading until you have been assessed. A clinician may compare hip movement, abdominal strength, resisted leg movement and walking, then decide whether imaging is useful. Sports Physiotherapy can help restore hip and trunk control through a staged plan, with return to training based on movement and function rather than a calendar date.
When to seek care
Book an assessment if pain persists, returns with activity, causes limping or limits sleep and daily movement. Seek urgent care after a fall or blow if you cannot bear weight, or if there is a visible deformity, rapidly increasing swelling, severe abdominal or testicular pain, fever, vomiting, or new numbness or weakness. Sudden intense pain deserves prompt evaluation even when the skin looks normal.
Questions for your clinician
Does the pain seem to come from the hip joint, adductor attachment or another structure? Which activities can I continue? Do I need imaging? What strength and movement goals should I meet before returning to sport?

Questions people ask
Is pubic bone pain always a hip problem?
No. Muscles, tendons, the abdominal wall and other nearby tissues can also cause pain in this region.
Can I keep exercising with groin pain?
Keep only comfortable activity that does not increase symptoms, and pause sharp or high-load movements until the cause is assessed.
