Prediabetes and random blood sugar

Random testing is done without requiring you to fast, so the reading may be influenced by when you last ate, what you ate, activity, illness, stress, and medicines. A single reading is a snapshot rather than a full picture of how your body handles glucose. Your clinician may compare it with a fasting glucose or HbA1c test, which reflects glucose patterns over a longer period. Prediabetes means glucose is above the usual range but not in the diabetes range; it does not mean that type 2 diabetes is inevitable.

Take the report to a clinician and record whether you had recently eaten, felt unwell, or changed a medicine. Ask whether repeat testing or formal Diabetes Screening is appropriate.
