Short answer

A prediabetes eating plan uses regular balanced meals built from vegetables, protein, fibre-rich carbohydrates, and unsaturated fats.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What a plan should achieve

Prediabetes reflects glucose regulation that is outside the usual range. An eating plan aims to make meals satisfying and predictable without removing every carbohydrate. Combining carbohydrate with fibre and protein may slow digestion and help reduce sharp hunger later. Your needs can differ because of activity, sleep, cultural foods, medicines, pregnancy, and other conditions.

Create a routine you can keep

For each main meal, choose vegetables first, then a protein such as fish, chicken, eggs, beans, lentils, or tofu, plus a measured serving of whole grains, oats, potatoes, or fruit. Use olive oil, nuts, seeds, or avocado for unsaturated fat. Keep water available and replace sweetened drinks with unsweetened options. Plan a snack only when hunger or your schedule calls for it; choose fruit with nuts or plain yoghurt. Nutrition Counselling can turn these principles into meals you enjoy. If weight is part of your health goal, ask about a Weight Management Programme.

When to seek medical advice

Book a review for persistent excessive thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, unusual tiredness, unexplained weight change, or repeated high glucose readings. These findings do not identify a diagnosis on their own, so Diabetes Screening may be needed. Seek urgent help for confusion, severe weakness, vomiting, or difficulty staying awake.

Questions for your doctor

Ask what your results mean, when follow-up testing is due, and whether any medicine changes are needed. Ask how to adjust meals around exercise, fasting, travel, or a typical UAE family meal.

Questions people ask

Must every meal be low carbohydrate?

No. The quality and portion of carbohydrate matter; fibre-rich choices combined with protein and vegetables are often more satisfying.

Who can personalise my plan?

A doctor or registered dietitian can account for your glucose results, medicines, culture, allergies, and health goals.
