What should you know about pre cellulitis?

The affected area may feel warmer than nearby skin and become increasingly sore, tight, or swollen. It can follow a crack, cut, bite, ulcer, or fungal infection between the toes. A fever or feeling unwell can occur as the infection develops. Cellulitis most often affects one area, such as a lower leg, arm, or face, but it can occur wherever bacteria enter damaged skin.

Arrange a same-day clinical assessment if redness, pain, or swelling is expanding. Keep the area clean, avoid squeezing or scratching it, and cover an open wound with a clean dressing. Resting and raising a swollen limb may ease pressure. Do not share towels, and mention conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes or a history of Athlete's Foot because they can affect skin protection and infection risk.

Seek urgent help if redness spreads quickly, pain is severe or out of proportion, the skin becomes blistered or dusky, or you develop Fever, confusion, faintness, rapid breathing, or marked weakness. These symptoms can signal a serious infection, including Sepsis. Facial or eye-area swelling also deserves rapid assessment because nearby structures can be affected.

Ask what findings support cellulitis, whether a wound or fungal infection may be the entry point, how to monitor the edge of redness, and when improvement should begin after treatment. Ask which symptoms mean you should return urgently.
