What should you know about post op lipo compression garment?

Liposuction can leave swelling, tenderness, bruising, and temporary changes in skin sensation. A garment applies gentle, even pressure over the area treated. It should feel supportive, not sharply painful, numb, or difficult to breathe in. Swelling may change during the day, so a garment that felt suitable at one visit may need checking as healing progresses.

Wear the garment only in the way your surgeon prescribed, including guidance about washing, sleeping, showering, and breaks. Keep the skin and incision areas clean and dry, and inspect for rubbing or folds. Follow activity and wound-care instructions rather than using tighter compression to speed recovery. A properly fitted compression garment should lie smoothly without cutting into the waist, groin, or limb.

Call your surgical team for rapidly increasing swelling, one-sided swelling, worsening pain, spreading redness, fluid from an incision, fever, or skin that becomes pale, blue, blistered, or cold under the garment. Remove or loosen it and seek urgent help for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, or sudden confusion, unless your team has given different emergency instructions.

Ask how many hours to wear the garment, how to judge a safe fit, when it can be removed for washing, and which changes mean you should stop wearing it. Clarify when swelling should be reviewed and whether a therapist is needed for ongoing fluid-related swelling.
