What should you know about post cellulitis skin changes?

Short answer
Post-cellulitis skin changes can include lingering colour change, dryness, tenderness, or swelling, but new spreading redness, warmth, pain, or fever may indicate active infection again.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Changes during recovery
Inflammation can leave the skin darker, lighter, dry, scaly, or sensitive after the infection has improved. Swelling may take longer to settle, especially in a limb where fluid drainage has been affected. The skin may also feel tight or itchy as it repairs. These changes should slowly become less active rather than progressively hotter, more painful, or wider.
A recurrent infection presents with active symptoms such as expanding skin redness, warmth, swelling, and painful skin. Athlete's foot, cracked skin, a wound, or type 2 diabetes can increase the need for careful prevention and review. The appearance alone cannot tell whether the infection has returned.
Protecting the area
Use a bland moisturiser on intact dry skin, protect the area from friction and sun, and keep cuts clean and covered. Elevate a swollen limb when resting and follow any prescribed course exactly. Check feet and skin folds regularly for cracks, blisters, or fungal scaling. Do not massage a hot, newly painful, or rapidly swelling area before it has been assessed.
Signs that need review
Contact a healthcare professional promptly if redness, warmth, pain, or swelling returns or spreads, or if drainage develops. Seek urgent care for fever, chills, severe pain, rapidly worsening swelling, confusion, faintness, or feeling very unwell. These symptoms can signal a serious infection, including sepsis, and should not be attributed to normal healing.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the colour or swelling fits recovery, how to manage persistent limb swelling, whether athlete's foot or another skin break needs treatment, and what early recurrence signs should trigger review.
