What should you know about a portable HIFU device?

High-intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, concentrates sound energy at selected depths beneath the skin. The energy creates controlled heating points that may support tissue tightening and remodelling. A portable design describes the device’s size or mobility; it does not show how deeply it treats, how accurately it focuses, or whether it is intended for a particular body area.

A consultation should consider skin laxity, facial anatomy, thin or sensitive areas, implanted devices, nerve symptoms, and prior procedures. HIFU is different from a surface skincare tool because energy is delivered below the visible skin.

Ask which depth and cartridge will be used, who will map the treatment area, and how the clinician will protect nerves, bone, eyes, and other sensitive structures. Share dental work, implants, facial weakness, altered sensation, pregnancy, and recent procedures. Contact the treating clinic for persistent or worsening pain, marked swelling, burns, numbness, tingling, weakness, or asymmetry. Seek urgent medical help for new facial drooping, trouble speaking, vision change, or swelling that affects breathing. Do not massage a painful area or apply heat unless the clinician advises it.
