What should you know about poroma dermoscopy?

A poroma is a growth arising from structures related to sweat glands. It may appear as a pink, red, or skin-coloured bump, sometimes with a moist surface or occasional bleeding. A dermatoscope uses magnification and illumination to show structures that are difficult to judge with the unaided eye, including colour, vessels, and surface details. Those patterns can help a clinician compare a poroma with other benign growths and with lesions needing closer investigation. Dermoscopy supports clinical judgement; it does not by itself provide a final diagnosis.

Do not pick, shave, or repeatedly traumatise a growth that bleeds or crusts. Photographing it in consistent light can help you notice change, but a photograph cannot replace examination. A dermatologist may monitor a stable lesion or recommend removal when it is irritated, symptomatic, changing, or diagnostically uncertain. If removed, the tissue can be sent for laboratory examination so the diagnosis is checked.

Arrange a skin examination for a new or changing bump, especially one that bleeds without clear injury, develops a persistent sore, changes colour, or grows. Seek prompt care for ongoing bleeding, rapidly increasing size, marked pain, or spreading redness. A dermatoscope assessment is particularly useful when the lesion cannot be confidently identified by looking at it alone.

Ask what features suggest poroma, whether monitoring or mole removal is appropriate, whether the tissue will be examined, and what wound changes should prompt a follow-up visit.
