What should you know about Plavix rash?

Plavix is the brand name for clopidogrel, an antiplatelet medicine. A new rash after starting it, changing the dose, or restarting it can reflect a medication reaction, although other causes remain possible. Look for when the rash began, where it appeared, whether it itches, and whether it is spreading. A drug rash may be flat, raised, blotchy, or hive-like. Other conditions such as contact dermatitis, heat rash, or an infection can look similar; a clinician may need to examine the skin and review every medicine and supplement.

Contact the prescribing clinician promptly and describe the rash, its start date, and any recent medicines, foods, or products. Take clear photographs in good light and keep the medication packaging available. Do not take extra doses, share medicine, or self-treat with a new product without checking. A clinician may advise whether to continue Plavix, change treatment, or use a symptom-relief approach. Keep the skin cool, use a bland fragrance-free moisturiser, and avoid scratching.

Seek emergency help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, or rapidly spreading hives.
