What should you know about plasma pen dark spots?

Heat and surface injury can trigger pigment production during healing. This is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and may be more noticeable after inflammation or sun exposure. Dark patches can also be related to melasma, sun spots, or tinea versicolor, so colour alone cannot identify the cause.

A spot that changes, bleeds, crusts without healing, or differs clearly from nearby marks deserves examination rather than cosmetic treatment. Review the timing, shape, texture, symptoms, and whether the change began before or after the procedure.

Do not pick crusts or repeat energy treatment while the skin is irritated. Use gentle cleansing, the products recommended by your clinician, and consistent daylight protection. Avoid unlabelled bleaching products and strong exfoliants, which may worsen inflammation.

A clinician can decide whether a pigment-focused plan, such as a chemical peel, skin brightening treatment, or picosecond laser treatment, is appropriate after identifying the cause. Treating the wrong condition can prolong the colour change.

Arrange assessment for a new or enlarging dark spot, irregular border, bleeding, persistent itch, pain, a firm area, pus, or delayed healing. Seek prompt care if redness, warmth, swelling, or discharge is increasing after treatment.
