What should you know about pgt a results?

PGT-A results describe chromosome findings in tested embryo cells and help guide embryo selection, but they cannot predict every pregnancy outcome. A report may describe an embryo as euploid, aneuploid, or mosaic, depending on the laboratory's terminology.

PGT-A examines a small sample taken from an embryo after laboratory development. A euploid result means the tested cells had the expected chromosome pattern. An aneuploid result means a chromosome difference was detected in the sample. Mosaic results show mixed findings in the tested cells and often need careful genetic counselling.

The result applies to the sampled cells, not a guarantee about every cell in the embryo. PGT-A does not assess every genetic condition, and it does not replace pregnancy screening or diagnostic testing. Laboratory terms, reporting thresholds, and embryo transfer policies can differ.

Ask the fertility team to explain each embryo report, how the result affects transfer order, whether a repeat biopsy or further review is possible, and what alternatives exist. Discuss embryo number, embryo development, your medical history, and the plan for pregnancy testing. A genetic counsellor can help explain uncertain or mosaic findings.

A PGT-A report itself is not an emergency. Contact your fertility clinic promptly if you develop significant pain, heavy bleeding, fever, or other symptoms after an egg-retrieval or embryo-transfer procedure. Seek urgent care for severe pain, fainting, breathing difficulty, or rapidly worsening illness.

Ask what each term means, whether any embryo result is mosaic or inconclusive, how the report affects transfer choices, what PGT-A did not test, and which screening or diagnostic tests will still be offered during pregnancy.
