What should you know about PCT tamoxifen?
Updated

Short answer
Tamoxifen is a prescription hormone-related medicine whose purpose, dose, and monitoring must be set by a qualified clinician.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What tamoxifen does
Tamoxifen attaches to oestrogen receptors and can block or alter oestrogen signalling in some tissues. In oncology it may be used for hormone-sensitive breast cancer or to reduce risk in selected people. The abbreviation PCT is also used online for post-cycle therapy, a non-standard context that may involve self-directed medicine use; this is not a substitute for oncology care.
The right use depends on the reason for treatment, reproductive status, other medicines, and personal medical history. Tamoxifen can cause side effects and can interact with medicines. A prescription, online protocol, or advice from a gym or social-media source should not determine how it is taken.
Using it safely
Take tamoxifen only as prescribed and do not change, share, or restart it without medical advice. Tell the prescriber about pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, abnormal vaginal bleeding, blood-clot history, stroke, liver problems, and every medicine or supplement you use. Keep appointments so symptoms and treatment decisions can be reviewed.

When to seek care
Seek urgent medical help for sudden chest pain, breathlessness, coughing blood, one-sided leg swelling or pain, sudden weakness, trouble speaking, or severe headache. Contact your clinician promptly for unusual vaginal bleeding, vision changes, or troublesome mood or physical effects. Do not wait for a routine review when symptoms suggest a clot or stroke.
Questions for your doctor
Why is tamoxifen being recommended? How long should the plan be reviewed for? Which medicines may interact with it? What symptoms need urgent attention? What monitoring do I need, and what should I do if I miss a dose?
Questions people ask
Can I use tamoxifen for post-cycle therapy without medical advice?
Self-directed use can expose you to interactions and serious side effects; discuss the reason and alternatives with a qualified clinician.
What is an emergency symptom while taking tamoxifen?
Sudden breathlessness, chest pain, one-sided leg swelling, or stroke-like symptoms need urgent medical help.
