Partial cystectomy recovery time

A partial cystectomy removes a tumour and a surrounding part of the bladder while leaving the remainder in place. After surgery, a catheter may drain urine while the bladder heals. Tiredness, abdominal discomfort, urinary urgency, and changes in how often you pass urine can occur early on. Your team may check the wound, urine, bladder function, and pathology results. Recovery depends on the operation, your general health, and whether other treatment is needed.

Take medicines exactly as prescribed, keep the incision clean and dry as instructed, and gradually increase walking. Avoid lifting or strenuous activity until your surgeon clears it. Drink fluids according to your care plan, especially if you have restrictions. Attend catheter removal and follow-up appointments, and report new urinary symptoms rather than waiting for the next visit.

Contact your surgical team promptly for fever, worsening pain, increasing redness or drainage, inability to pass urine, repeated vomiting, or blood in the urine that is increasing or accompanied by clots. Seek urgent help for severe weakness, fainting, breathing difficulty, or sudden heavy bleeding.
