What should you know about palmar wart removal?

A wart on the palm can feel rough, firm or tender when you grip objects. Palmar skin is thick and exposed to friction, so a wart may grow inward and resemble a callus. Examination helps distinguish it from other palm lesions and identifies whether several spots are connected.

Removal is not always a single event. Depending on the finding, a dermatologist may use a topical approach, freezing, controlled tissue treatment or another method. The aim is to clear the wart while limiting irritation and injury to healthy skin.

Do not cut, burn or aggressively file a suspected wart at home. Keep the area clean, avoid sharing nail tools or towels, and cover it if it rubs against equipment or another person’s skin.
