What should you know about painless wart removal?

Warts are rough growths caused by a viral infection in the outer skin. Treatment may involve freezing, applying a medicine, scraping, cutting, or another method selected for the site and type of wart. Discomfort can come from the treatment itself, swelling afterward, or pressure on a weight-bearing area such as the sole. A wart may need more than one treatment, and the skin can remain tender while it heals. A clinician should confirm that the growth is a wart before treating it.

Tell the clinician about diabetes, poor circulation, reduced sensation, immune problems, medicines, and a history of thick scars. Do not cut or burn the growth at home. Keep treated skin clean, protect any blister or crust, and follow dressing instructions. Avoid sharing towels, razors, or tools because warts can spread through contact. Wear suitable footwear when a foot lesion is treated, and return if the growth persists or comes back.

Contact the clinic if pain becomes stronger, redness spreads, swelling increases, or the area drains pus. Seek prompt help for fever, red streaks, uncontrolled bleeding, or loss of sensation. A growth that changes colour, bleeds without clear injury, or has an uncertain diagnosis should be assessed before removal.
