What should you know about paige digital pathology?

In digital pathology, a microscope slide containing tissue is scanned into a high-resolution image. A pathologist can examine that image on a secure screen, zoom into areas of interest, compare regions, and record findings. Paige tools may help draw attention to patterns in tissue, but they do not replace the pathologist’s medical judgement.

The result is still interpreted alongside the tissue sample, the clinical history, imaging, and other laboratory findings. A software prompt is not the same as a diagnosis, and a reassuring screen result cannot by itself exclude cancer.

Ask which test is being performed, whether your sample is being reviewed digitally, and what the pathologist is assessing. You can also ask when the report is expected and who will explain terms such as benign, malignant, grade, or margin.

Digital pathology itself does not create symptoms that require urgent treatment. Contact your oncology or pathology team promptly if you have not received an expected result, do not understand the next step, or develop new symptoms after a biopsy such as increasing redness, swelling, drainage, fever, or worsening pain.

Ask: What did the tissue sample show? Was the image reviewed by a pathologist? Did the software identify an area needing closer inspection? Are more stains, tests, or a second review needed? How will this report affect staging or treatment planning?
