What should you know about otoscope machine?

The instrument combines a viewing system with a light and a small tip that sits at the ear opening. It can help the examiner look for visible wax, irritation, swelling, discharge, or changes to the eardrum. It cannot measure hearing, identify every cause of ear pain, or replace a full medical history. The result is interpreted with symptoms and examination findings elsewhere.

Some devices provide a direct view, while others may display or record an image for clinical review. The clinician chooses an appropriate tip and technique for the person being examined.

Describe when symptoms began and mention reduced hearing, fever, discharge, dizziness, recent swimming, trauma, or attempts to remove wax. Avoid placing objects or liquids in the ear unless a clinician has advised it. Keep your head steady and tell the examiner if you feel sharp pain.
