One day after embryo transfer: what to know

Embryo transfer places an embryo into the uterus during an IVF treatment cycle. Implantation, if it occurs, is not something you can feel reliably the next day. Mild pelvic pressure, cramps, bloating or light spotting may come from the procedure, the catheter or medicines rather than indicating whether treatment has worked.

Micronised progesterone is often used as luteal support in fertility care when prescribed. It can cause symptoms such as breast tenderness, tiredness, bloating or discharge, which can overlap with early pregnancy symptoms. A home test taken too early may mislead, particularly if an earlier trigger medicine was used.

Take prescribed medicines at the instructed times and do not stop progesterone because of spotting or cramping unless your fertility team tells you to. Keep ordinary gentle activity if you feel well; strict bed rest is not a substitute for medical advice. Avoid smoking and recreational drugs, and ask before taking a new medicine. Keep the clinic's test date and contact number accessible.

Call your fertility clinic promptly for heavy bleeding, severe or increasing abdominal pain, marked one-sided pain, faintness, fever, breathlessness, rapidly increasing abdominal swelling, vomiting or reduced urine. These symptoms can require assessment after fertility treatment. Seek emergency help if you collapse, have severe breathing difficulty or develop sudden chest pain.
